Vici Gaming Interview with Dove – The International 2019

Vici Gaming Interview with Dove – The International 2019

VG were the Champions for one Minor
and two Majors during the past season
Many people believe VG is a top-seeded team
What do you think about this?
No particular thoughts
Just the way it is.
So what is your goal for this year’s TI
Top 6
Top 6 is our goal.
Top 4. At least top 4.
Top 4?
Let’s add two more ranks, go for Top 4.
Adding two more?
– We’ll add two more, Top 4.
Then which teams do you consider strong?
EG, LGD, super strong.
Don’t forget Team Secret
– And Team Secret!
They are invincible in practice matches
These three teams will claim the top 3 places
Plus you guys, just enough to make top 4.
To be honest, I heard that VG was in very good form
during the preparations for TI
You’re over-thinking this.
What you heard is pure rumor.
We get owned everyday
– Owned everyday.
LGD beat us 3:0 everyday, honestly.
3:0 everyday.
So you think LGD is particularly strong?
EG is pretty strong too, they dominate us everyday
EG always beats us 2:0, we just can’t fight back.
Can’t win at all.
But your team has won two Major Championship titles
and these teams have all
lost to you guys previously.
We were just lucky.
Pure luck.
Then who from the team do you think
brings you the good fortune?
“Peak Year Ori!”
Peak Year Ori, because he’s
in his professional prime.
So… you think his current form is really good?
So he literally carries all four teammates?
Yeah, more or less
How about rOtk?
Same. rOtk got carried too.
Whatever Ori wants to pick, he picks.
That’s how good he is.
Looks like you are in charge of sleeping,
Ori is in charge of drafting
And rOtk is just a handyman?
A puppet!
Yep, a puppet!
He just picks whatever he is told to pick.
So rOtk has coached your team for a year.
Objectively speaking,
how would you evaluate him over the past year?
He is pretty awesome.
Not bad really.
Very obedient?
Tell the truth.
Actually he is very strong-willed person
He has his own opinions and ideas.
So most of the time he would
think about his own ideas
But he would consult our opinions.
But normally he does make a good point
I have been with him for 2-3 years,
I would say he is a dedicated person
Because he…. there was one
time I was very impressed
Back when I was in VGJ, there was one time
when I went downstairs at 3am for some water
He was still watching replays
because we had a match the next day.
He was studying our opponents
So in this regard, he is very
driven and professional.
And there were no major flaws in his drafting.
I believe he will do a good job during this TI too.
If a game is lost because of you,
would you feel a lot of pressure?
It depends on the person in that situation
The team isn’t very harsh,
we don’t blame anyone or point fingers after a loss.
Everyone is quite tolerant towards one another.
So it’s pretty alright.
A lot of people believe that for a team,
only their TI performance is remembered.
What do you think of the relationship
between TI and other tournaments?
I think a tournament is just a tournament
You shouldn’t overrate it.
Competitive Esports is all about winning.
I do agree with him on not overrating it.
Even if you recognize that those
tournaments are vastly different
not just from the prize pool or public attention
but just don’t over think about it
Over thinking leads to bad performance
So I do agree with what Yang said.
This year’s TI is in Shanghai,
and a lot passionate fans will be attending.
Have you secretly imagined the scene
of your fans cheering for you?
Not really, I think we’ve already seen that a lot
We have been playing for so many years
I would rather avoid thinking about this
or it will just create more pressure.
Don’t want to disappoint others,
just treat this as a normal thing.
Don’t you enjoy the feeling of being on stage?
To be honest, I actually do enjoy being on stage
Of course you would!
After you win the game, you
can enjoy the fans cheering
You certainly would feel very happy
especially on our home turf
So I hope we could win more series on the main stage
to enjoy more cheers from the fans.
With The International drawing closer,
are there any feelings that are growing stronger?
I have competed twice in this place already,
so I don’t feel anything special now.
It feels like playing Dota Asia Championships.
Just like the DAC and Supermajor.
Where we got eliminated after one round.
Do you believe in superstition?
No I don’t.
Break the curse?
Bad things doesn’t happen thrice!
I believe that curses can’t happen thrice.
During this TI, is there anything apart from
competing that you feel has to be done?
I have to enter the arena more times!
I want to be there for a few more days.
Same for me
I just want to stay there for a few more days
A few more days.
We can try the takeout food in the Pudong district
Change a place just to order takeout food!
Coming to Pudong just to eat!
To be frank, it feels so good to order
takeout from a different district Yeah?
It’s awesome.
Finally to close things off with a cliche question
Who do you think would claim the Aegis this year?
Obviously EG, they’re unbeatable
Should be LGD! With EG in second place
EG on second place, LGD claims the Champion!
Sounds about right.
Thank you for that.
Well thank you both for taking our interview.

I dont blame them for saying EG unbeatable i mean all 5 players are individually skileld and 3 ofthem is on God level

I see a lot of comments misunderstanding the jokes they're making in the interview, thinking they actually thought EG and LGD are unbeatable. In Chinese culture, it is a superstistion, almost a meme in the community at this point, that if you are the favorites in a tournament that you will lose. So they jokingly flame themselves, call themselves trash, say they are just lucky, say other teams are so much better than them, so that they are not the favorites otherwise their chances are 0.

  • August 24, 2019 at 3:19 pm

I don't know if they're genuinely humble. LGD pretty much said the same thing. It's as if they all have scripts that say "be humble. Don't acknowledge OG TI champions and promote other Chinese teams."

  • August 24, 2019 at 3:33 pm

And now they are on 6th place, Yang must be from the future

  • August 24, 2019 at 3:51 pm

  • August 29, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Albert Einstein, one of the greatest minds to ever live, was once perplexed by the speed at which Arteezy was able to farm. Seemingly impossible GPMs of 800+ every game were consistently observed, leading to the hypothesis that this was no fluke. Einstein spent the last years of his life trying to prove the ability of Arteezy's farm existed within the laws of science. Critics laughed at his efforts, claiming that Arteezy's farm was an undeniable act of divine intervention. It wasn't until the end when Einstein found the answer. On his deathbed, Einstein spent the last seconds of his life jotting down what is now the world's most infamous scientific formula. 2ez=4rtz²
