The Imposter Kings – Two player playthrough

Music used in video from: www.bensound.com Hi Everyone, and welcome to The Imposter Kings playthrough My name is Sina Yeganeh, and I’m the creator, and designer of the game For this video we’re going to go ahead and demo the two player version of the game, But look forward to another video showing off the 3-4 player version of the game So lets go find ourselves an opponent! Hey Alissa, would you like to play a game?! Would I?!!!! So alright, here we go, we’re going to start playing the game I’m going to deal out (excuse me) If I can… yep that’s seven (counting is hard!) Alright! So… the basics of this game is that you get a hand of cards I… (softly) Kinda like this… but you might have a powerful hand, we’ll see Ooh, she does not like her hand What’s going to happen is that we’re both going to be playing cards… each of these cards have a value We’re going to be playing cards in the middle (the court) The basics of the game is that you have to play something equal or higher in value So, obviously, this one is going to be hard to play But it has an extremely powerful ability. This one lets me take any card I want into my hand (softly) she can probably guess what I have… And this one, for example, is extremely powerful We both also have a King And so, this King, allows us to if we can’t play on the pile, the King allows us to flip over this card to be able to play any card that we want The one caveat to that is that there is an Assassin lurking out there, and I don’t have it in my hand, so there’s a good chance that Alissa has it in her hand, so I have to be weary If I flip my king and she has the Assassin, she can instantly win the round There are also two cards here, one facedown and one faceup We both can see that this card is not in play (the faceup one) There’s also one burn card that neither of us can see That could be the assassin or it could be in Alissa’s hand, we’ll see (spoilers: we will see) So I’m going to go first, Alissa has already put down her successor card down, that’s basically one of these cards I have to discard I’m going to go ahead and discard this one in case of a tiebreaker, we use the value of this But tiebreakers don’t happen very often so, it’s essentially a card you choose from your hand that you don’t think you’ll be using or it’s not part of your plan Alright, let’s get started! Shall I go first? Alissa: sure Alright, I will start with this card, which is the inquisitor. Huge fan of this card, as it forces her to play any card that I mention I can choose the Assassin to have piece of mind or I can choose her Queen I’m actually going to choose the Queen because I want that to come out Alissa: Nope (in disbelief) You don’t have the Queen? Ok, so I got some really valuable intel there This is bad for me, because not only is she not forced to play a card, it is now also her turn and she only has to beat a four or higher So, yeah… (still in disbelief) That’s too bad, that means the Queen is either here (points to burn card and both successor cards) Or in my hand (it’s not) And I was just bluffing (I wasn’t) Ah, the soldier, your favourite card Alissa: Ummm, I hate this card So the soldier is a five, she gets to mention a card name She’s trying to guess what’s in my hand Alissa: Princess! Which I have, and so I confirm that I have the Princess, and this (the soldier) gets a value of plus two when she guess correctly, so now this is up to a seven so I have to play a seven or higher Not looking great for the home team over here, so I’m gonna go ahead and just throw down my princess which is my highest card (unless I was bluffing with that Queen obviously) This allows me if I would like to, I could force her to swap a card from her hand into my hand Eh, you know what… why don’t we… The problem is is… this card. It lets her play on Royalty (note: Princess is royalty) So I kinda want her to not be able to do that You know what? I’m going to say… no swapzies Alissa: Ok Not sure if it was a great move, but we’ll see So she played the Oathbound, which is a card that you’re allowed to play on any card, but if she does, she needs to play another card from her hand. That means if she runs out of cards before she’s able to play another card, then she will lose the game However, it does get her out of this situation So she can play ANY card from her hand that she wants I see… So now she’s playing the Sentry. The Sentry allows her if she wants to, to basically flip this card over and make it a value of one to use it’s power It’s power is that she can swap any card from her hand with anything in the court (the play area) We’ll see if she decides to do that Alissa (confidently): I will not She will not… ok So it’s just an eight So you can see that there’s a dichotomy here. She can choose to use the power but then it’ll bring its value down to 1 and gives me breathing room or if she doesn’t use the power, it’s a power eight There’s a lot of different strategy that you can use I’m in a bit of a pickle …as you can tell It’s not looking good. I know she has the Assassin in her hand I don’t really have anything I can play but if I flip my King, I’m fearful of that Assassin Fortunately there is one small thing that I can do I can play the same card she did, which is the Oathbound So I’ll do that Disgraces the card underneath it which just flips it over, inaccessible for the rest of the round and then I have to play another card from my hand So I’m actually going to play Let’s try THE FOOL! So the Fool allows me to take ANY card from the court into my hand, it’s really hard to play because it only has a value of one, but with the Oathboard, it combos naturally I think I’ll take the Oathbound What a quite a ring a round game we’ve got going here Now she only has to beat a one or higher Alright, so she’s playing her King’s Hand, which is an eight It also has the ability to cancel another ability If they decided to play an ability, in this case she’s just playing it for the eight And at this point, I am really, thinking that she has the Assassin She may have put it as her Successor card but now I have to make the decision “Hey, is she holding onto the Assassin or did she put it down” as her Successor. I know my wife, she holds onto the Assassin So I have to do the risky play here, and that means I have to play another Oathbound, disgrace that one, and then play My Elder… Which is just a three So now I’m really hoping that she (interrupts) Alissa: You can’t play that I used the Oathbound, so I can play any card Ok, so she’s got even another card in her hand that is quite powerful The Warlord is a value of seven. If there is Royalty in the court, then it turns into a nine (!) In this case, there is no Royalty in the court, so it stays a seven There was a Princess, but it got disgraced, so it’s still a seven You can see how playing different cards at different times can actually make them more powerful or less powerful, or by disgracing things in the court can actually change the game dramatically So… (Sigh) I’m out of options here She has one card in her hand and… *Laughs at her smile* Uhhh, I think I’m just going to forfeit Just kidding, I’ll go ahead and flip my King Alissa: HAAAH! What would normally happen is that then this Warlord would get flipped over and I would be able to play for one additional turn. And in that case, we would’ve gone to a tie. However, since she has the Assassin, and as you can tell from her dancing That’s… uh…. Alissa: I’m the winner! Yeah, you’re the winner alright… ummm… so… Yep, not bitter at this one at all Alissa: You mad though? (Sina is definitely mad) But I hope you got to see how easy it was to pick up, yet how many different choices each of the players had Please let us know if you have ANY questions or thoughts And thank you SO much for supporting us It really means a lot to us Cameraman: “Who’s us?” Alissa: “Yeah for real” (Music) (Thanks again everyone!) (Music fades out)
