Meet The Teens Who Are Changing The Game // Sponsored By Google Play

– Hey everybody, I’m
Kelsey, and I’m partnering with Google Play to bring
you along for my experience with the Change the Game Design Challenge. We have five amazing teen girls who have all designed their
own mobile video games and are going to be talking with me today about the process that they’ve had, how are they feeling about it, tell us all a little bit about those games that we’ll get to play. (upbeat music) – Hi, I’m Neha. I’m 15. – My name is Krista. I’m 18. – My name is Anna. I’m 17 years old. – Hi, my name is Bridgette.
I am 16 years old. – Hi, my name is Grace. I’m 15. – Why don’t you tell me a
little bit about your game? – So, “YuMe” is a single-player platformer that involves puzzles,
and it’s about a girl who’s on the planet Yunoya. The name Yume comes from
a Japanese word, “yume,” which means “dream.” And so the message is that like, when her and the people on Earth meet, it’s like her dream comes together, so that’s the inspiration. – I just high-key got chills. – The idea is that you play as a character who has lost their memories. You are going through attempting to help other people who
have lost their memories. You’re just trying to save them from this supposed danger that they’re in. Maybe not so much what you think it is. – Ohhh, a little bit of mystery in there. – So the name of the game that I designed is called “Brightlove,”
and essentially I found that a lot of the games I had been playing when I was younger
focused more on violence and kind of destructive behaviors, and I wanted to change
that around a little bit. And so, the story of my
game really follows CC, which is a kind creature
navigating her world. – The game is called “Lune.”
It is a visual novel, and it’s single-player. It’s set like in an abandoned moon colony that has lost all contact with Earth, and you play as this recently
powered-on AI named Turin, who’s learning to kind
of find out who she is. – So “Good Dogs Bring Joy” is
a game where you play as a dog, and you have to try to
keep your owner happy. And she’s going through
some rough times with work, and you have to play with her and take her on walks – and you have to be a good
dog and listen to her when she tries to train you. You just really have to be a
kind of a light in her life. – So like, what was the first
thing that came to mind? Like, what was the initial seed
that started the whole game? – I think it was probably the setting, like the idea of the moon, and the isolation that came with it. And then the main character,
Turin, came right afterwards. – I got the idea before I
heard about the competition. – [Kelsey] Oh! – And then I was like, I
should write that down. Maybe I could come up with
some concept about that, and I had a very short list of some games that I maybe wanted to make. And when I heard about the
competition I was like, oh, I could make that game. – It’s usually some sort of picture of whether it’s a character
that I really wanna make or an environment that
I think is really cool. Sometimes it’ll just be
like kind of one little idea that I want to build everything off of. – So how have you been feeling today? Like what’s been the experience like being here around everybody? – So amazing to see everyone else’s art, and the amount of setup there was, and it was just amazing and overwhelming. – Yeah. – Super exciting and also really inspiring to see all the other games that were made and how many creative ideas there were and also how wide of a spectrum the different games have been. And how it’s really cool that each girl has her own idea and is kinda
bringing that into reality in her own way. – So you’ve submitted the
game, and you’re here. What is the thing that
you are most excited about for the rest of this project? – I mean I really want
to see it come to life. I’m kind of excited to see the code ’cause they’re gonna give me the code and the art and everything, and I’m interested to see
how a professional game gets built from the inside out. – Definitely the writing
because it’s a visual novel; there’s a ton of, I think,
writing that is gonna have to go into it, and I’m
really excited to be a part of that and be able to weave a story. – I really like the art
and the story portion ’cause I like writing, like, dialogue and maybe, like, some actions, and then with the art you get
to actually see it play out, and you get to make it play out how you want it, so I
think that’s a lot of fun. – Do you think you’d
wanna go into game design in the future? – Yeah, for sure. – [Kelsey] You want to look into that? – Yeah, I think that’s
where I’m heading towards. – Really? – [Neha] Yeah. – Oh my gosh, I can’t wait
to play all of your games. – It’s definitely something that I didn’t really
consider when I was younger, but to kind of be a part
of that movement now, a movement that’s really
just getting started, is really exciting. – It is kind of opening a new door, and I’m beginning to think about it ’cause it’s such an awesome intersection of art and tech and a bunch
of things that I love. – I’m so excited because I get to play all of their games in the next episode, but you get to play
them all live right now because they’re already
in the Google Play Store. (upbeat music)

Always didn't like these type of events always thought I do the hard work creating ideas and making the game if I win all I get is a scholarship while Google will potentially make the game and profit from it

These all sounds like super cool ideas and I'm eager to see how their games will be improved, but what's "game changing" about them?
