Kingdom Come: Deliverance Video Update #14: Beta Version

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Video Update #14: Beta Version

Hello, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to our
new video update. This time it’s gonna be dedicated exclusively to our new beta
that we’re releasing for you as we speak So what’s the beta, what’s in it and
who will get it? It’s been almost exactly two years since we had our Kickstarter
campaign. We’ve been releasing early versions of the game during that time and
so far we had five releases which we call tech alphas. They have shown only
a small portion of the game with selected game mechanics and the beta is much larger
than these versions and has most of the game mechanics that we plan to have
in the final game. Some things are still unfinished or missing but most of the
stuff is there: large non-linear quests, RPG system, large battle, cutscenes, adaptive music,
branching dialogues with skill checks, combat with different weapons and multiple enemies,
a large part of the world. Now we will concentrate on polishing these
mechanics and content, quests and cutscenes. Beta doesn’t have all the quests and the
whole game world, and there’s a reason for that. We are still months from the
release of the final game and if we wanted to do it we would have to release
it much later, but most importantly I don’t think it would be a good idea.
Releasing a full beta would be like releasing a half-written book.
It would spoil everything,
but it would lack the finesse of the final thing. Especially for single
player story-based games, I believe that it would do much more harm than good. So
you may call it a technology beta if you wish, and those who are afraid to try
the game because of spoilers, I think it’s safe to play it. There are some spoilers, but not
many. So who will get the beta? Any backer that
has alpha access and now also Knight tiers. So most of the Kickstarter backers, except
Soldier tiers. If you don’t have access yet and would like to try it, or support development,
you can still back our game on our webpage and get access to the beta
immediately. You can even upgrade your tier from Kickstarter to be able to
play the beta. We now have a new, much nicer website and it is easier to
navigate, with a simple shop. New backers will download the game with our own
proprietary downloader and launcher and if you’re already a backer you can still
use Steam. The money we get from crowdfunding is all used on development.
Anybody who ever worked on a game knows that there
is never enough money to make a perfect game. So thanks everyone for supporting
us, because you are allowing us to make a better game than we would be able to do
without you. So what’s new in the beta? The first thing everybody will realize
is that we have many new locations and the world is much larger. The map is
approximately five times larger than in the alpha, with new villages, the first castle,
vast forests and lots of other interesting locations. Of course all
the locations and content from the alpha is also still there. It’s big but it’s still
just a glimpse of the final map which is going to be at least four, maybe five
times bigger than the beta and of course there’s also a new quest, and
while the quests in alpha were quite small so far, this one is taken from the
main story, takes several hours to finish and ends with a battle. Oh, I may have just
spoiled it, but yeah, there’s gonna be a battle. The quest is a very good example of how much
freedom we are giving to the player. Almost any goal or objective can be
accomplished several different ways. Important people could die and it’s
still possible to finish it, so I believe there’s a lot of replayability as well.
And as I said, all the quests from the previous versions are still there. Bear
in mind that since it’s still just a beta, it’s not perfectly balanced and
there might be some issues but it’s definitely a good example of things to come. And other new feature is save and load.
It may seem something simple but trust me, load and save for an RPG, and
especially for an RPG that simulates everything in the background, is very
very hard. Each time you do a save we are saving the state of hundreds of NPCs and
other entities that might be doing almost anything at the time, and a
single bug could destroy everything after load, so there might still be some
issues after load and we will be glad if you report them on our forums as well as
any other bugs or suggestions. Since the new quest is taken from the
storyline, it has some cutscenes which have a premiere in the beta, together with new
music. I think they look great and there’s gonna be plenty of them in the
final game, but keep in mind that the facial animations, voice and model of
lead actor and many NPCs are just temporary now and we’ve been scanning
lots of people with our proprietary face scanner and started to put them into
the game as NPCs. Currently there’s around thirty new characters and we plan to
have hundreds. Also all the main characters will have their proprietary heads, scanned most likely from the actors.
So far there was only one sword in the alpha and that’s changing. You can now fight with
several different swords, you can have sword and shield and also maces and
axes. There’s also more armors and they don’t serve only as protection. If you
wear Cuman armor, you can sneak into the Cuman camp without being noticed, but
don’t show in that armor in the camp of their enemies or you will be attacked
immediately. But again this is just a glimpse of things to come. We are still
balancing the combat system, adding new weapons, moves and combos and tweaking
animation, so there’s much more things to come in the final version and those
weapons we are talking about could finally be used in battle. So far we
have managed to have hundreds of fully simulated people on the battlefield
and such a battle is in the beta. We are still optimizing AI and working
on it, but I guess that even at this stage it’s probably the biggest melee
battle in games and not only RPGs. And last but not least, we now have a new
weather system and it looks gorgeous. So expect rain, storms, fog and beautiful
effects that go with it. Since we are talking about beta, of course
there are things that still need work.
If there’s something that still bothers me a little bit it’s the amount of some
types of content. We are still working on NPC behavior and there’s just a few
quests, so some places may not look as lively as they will in the final game.
NPCs in the game are supposed to talk to each other and interact and will have
a much bigger variety of actions, tasks and professions. This is something we are still working
on right now, so it’s going to be much better in the future. Also there will be
much more to do in the locations, for example in Talmberg, which is a new
location in beta, there will of course be more quests than just the one from the beta.
We plan to have a lot more random events too in the world. Currently you can already encounter some
bandits, find some hidden treasures and so on, but it’s something which will be
much better in the future as well. One of the biggest issues currently is the skip
time and sleep and lack of fast travel. Skip time is extremely slow now, because
we have to simulate the whole world during it in the background and since
it’s not optimized you have to wait. We’ll make it faster in the future, but it’s
still not possible at this moment. The fast travel is not there for the same reason.
It uses the same mechanics, so even though it’s already implemented in the game, it’s
not there because it would be too slow. So that’s about it for today. I hope that
you are gonna like the beta. Let us know what you think about it by either taking the
time to fill our little survey, or by going to our forums and report any bugs
or tell us your suggestions. These reports are really important for
us and help us to make a better game. Seriously, it’s very important. We DO
read them and we really fix stuff according to your
suggestions. We will do a live stream from the beta quest soon with Toby, so
don’t forget to watch it. Have a look at our new website, follow us on YouTube
Twitter or Facebook for the latest videos and news. You can still back the
game if you didn’t already and keep your fingers crossed for us. There’s still a
lot of work to do, so we need it. Thank you very much and bye.

I cannot wait for this game, easily my most anticipated game! The only other full medieval no fantasy game I can play is Mount and Blade, but I have been wanted an open RPG like this forever! Please, take your time and optimize this, polish it, and make it the best game it can be. Don't feel pressured to launch if it's not ready! Thanks for all your hard work and love into this game!

New environmental effects are looking good! Are there plans to have the NPC's go inside or seek shelter during rain and thunderstorms? I noticed in the video the woman just casually sitting at the table outside during the thunderstorm.

Your game looks awesome. Not only the graphics: design of the world map is also beautiful. And the moment when player takes armor/cloth from defeated bandit — it gave Morrowind-ish goosebumps.

What is the point of backing the game when the studio lied and betrayed the original backers? PC gamer backers made this game from a concept to a project because we don't want console holding the game. Yet the studio now will carter to console parity and downgrade the game. What is the point when the project stray from it original purpose?

I'm sure many real life archers (like myself) will be playing this game and we would love to see archery to be as realistic as possible.
Historically accurate bows, realistic draw weights, various arrow tips and so on.

To the Dev, I am wondering about Looking after armour and weapons, In a real right, Armour if it kept getting hit would dent and break, would need to taken to the smith often if you fight often in it, and Freshly new armour would be covered in scratches after many battles reguardless of how well the smith does to repair, Same with a sword, if a sword smacks against another metal sheet of armour, the blade will become dull pretty fast, I am curious if theses will be effects in the game? It would be interesting if Armour could get very dirty and ugly aswell if you keep wearing it all the time 24-7 without ever cleaning it lol

I have to wonder. What is current state of optimisation? I really want to buy the game for 60 USD to have access to the beta and final release. So I have downloaded Alpha to see how the game is running. And it was running on 15 frames per second which I suppose was caused by the game and not my PC (Yes, I have the requirements.) Changing the game details from High to Med and Low settings was not affecting the FPS.

Dear Warhorse Studios, I have been watching lots of game-play and Re-watching the trailers. Iv noticed how awesome it would be to see your player while he's in combat. Now i understand your going for a realistic medieval RPG, but for the sake of enhanced enjoyment while playing, i think you should add a 3rd person. But of course its your game so you don't have to. To be perfectly honest, i doubt you will even see this comment. But thanks anyway. Also, take your time with the game. Don't rush, good things take time, and this is going to be one awesome game 🙂

The voice acting in the beta is still terrible… the main character has no character at all. his voice is that of a posh overly well spoken english gent not what you would expext from a blacksmiths voice… not gruff enough at all… i know its still a work in progress and it has improved since alpha but its still very much not fit for purpose and in my opinion game breaking… the character has no conviction, just some horrible generic southern accent, and the character looks like he has a stick up his ass…. the game looks beautiful and the world is convincing, the characters in it not so much… this game is going to be let down by its voice acting and casting, which is well below parr. I hope you sort this out otherwise ill be asking for a refund as the voices are painful… some are ok but majority just seem like an afterthought… i know you know that this is a hard thing to get right and not being native english speakers its a challenge for sure for you to get it right… and get it right you must.

I must admit, when I first backed this project it looked impressive, didn't even realize I could opt-inn to the Alpha & Beta until now due to my pledge tier. It's sooo amazing looking, it's not over saturated with unrealistic lighting and effects, it looks just so photorealistic sometimes and I love it, despite the beta performance of course.

However, you mention the game will be 4-5% larger than Beta, it only takes you 3-5 min to reach the edge of the beta map on horse back so idk that feels kinda small. Of course that could be backed up with tons of quests and things to do. I just hope the game will have 20+ hours worth of content.

Unoptimized sleeping could be used as a benchmark in the game … 😀 😀 Less sleep=higher score 😀 😀

This is only a technical demo but the immersion feeling is so strong. This is really promising. Colours balancing make things so real. That's really impressive.

I just wanted to pay a little visit here, looking on the game without all the spoilers the fans make, usually unintentionally.
The main thing that brought me here, except for my obviouse sympathy for RPG games, was the declaration "dungeons and no dragons", which was really lovely.
Now, after watching YOU, Daniel Vavra, im going to pay the whole 60$.
It's not just rare – your modesty, honesty and dignity. It's something that I'v never witnessed before from a big producer.
May the game be a success, good luck !

What happened to Russell Crowe's voice, looks like he's put a few pounds on too.

I was going to back the game early in its development but I wasn't 100%. Now I'm wishing I did, it looks fantastic. Thanks for being honest about the bugs. I will definitely be purchasing this at some point. Keep up the good work, guys!
