James Cameron Addresses Titanic, Terminator and Avatar Rumors

-I want to talk to you
about “Alita”
because I just saw it last night
in 3-D.
“Alita: Battle Angel.”
-And?
-It is unbelievable. It is —
-Yes!
-So unbelievable.
I don’t even really understand
what I was watching.
[ Laughter ]
We’ll talk about —
let’s talk it.
-Cool kickass movie?
-Oh, yeah.
I mean, the action thing was —
but I just didn’t know
what was real.
But we’ll — I want to
get into that.
But first, I heard — I want to
talk about some rumors I heard.
-Okay.
-One rumor I heard is
that you originally wanted
Matthew McConaughey
for the lead role in “Titanic”
and that he turned it down.
-Okay, so I just need everybody
to back up a second and realize
that not everything you hear on
the Internet is true.
-Thank you. Okay, good.
-I don’t want to shock you.
-That’s actually the — yeah.
-No, Matthew read, you know,
for the part.
And then we met Leo.
-Yeah.
-And Leo came in
for an interview.
And I had this weird thing.
I looked around the room
and every woman in the building
was in the meeting.
[ Laughter ]
-Really?
-Normally, you meet with
an actor,
you’re kind of one-on-one
in an office.
It’s like the accountant
was there
and the female security guard.
[ Laughter ]
-Everybody wanted to see him.
-I thought,
“Maybe I better cast this guy.”
-He’s a magical kid. Yeah.
Okay, good.
-So anyways — so, no, the
Matthew thing has become mythic.
But I just want to say, Matthew,
you know, if you’re watching,
are we good?
Are we good?
[ Laughter ]
It wasn’t me, man.
I didn’t spread this rumor.
-You are good.
Yeah, you love him. Yeah.
And then I heard a rumor
that you’re making another
“Terminator” movie?
-Yes.
[ Cheers and applause ]
I can neither confirm nor deny
that there might be
Linda Hamilton coming back
to kick some serious ass.
-Yeah!
[ Cheers and applause ]
-I can’t confirm that nor deny.
-You can’t for or deny.
How about can you confirm nor
deny Arnold Schwarzenegger?
-I can confirm nor deny that.
-Really?
[ Laughter ]
How do you have time
to do all that and —
I mean, the “Avatar” 2 and 3?
-Yes, yes.
[ Cheers and applause ]
“Avatar” 2, 3, 4, 5.
-Yeah, no.
-Seriously.
-Are you really?
-Seriously, they’re all written.
And we’ve done the capture.
-Have you done “Avatar 4”
as well?
-We’re working on it, yeah.
[ Cheers and applause ]
-Really?
-Yeah.
-I got — I was blown away.
We had you on last time
for “Avatar.”
And I’ve never seen
a film like that.
I thought it was my favorite
movie of that year
because the 3-D.
-Yeah.
-I just never experienced
anything like it
until I saw “Alita.”
-Yeah, I think
it’s a new high bar.
And, you know,
because of “South Park,”
I now have to set the bar higher
each time. I have no choice.
-You have no choice.
-It’s like a curse.
-They make you have to
top yourself.
-Yeah, yeah.
But that’s Robert’s movie —
That was Robert Rodriguez’s
movie.
I mean,
he was large and in charge.
He directed it.
He was like Gladys Knight,
and I was the Pips.
-Okay. All right, yeah.
-Just in the back.
-So you were in the background.
-Yeah.
-But how did it end up being —
Was it always Robert’s movie
or were you gonna do it?
-No, I started it
And I bought the rights to
this amazing series of books,
an artist named Yukito Kishiro.
And it’s just this whole world
that he created.
And I did it because there was
this great female character
in the middle of it,
this young teenage girl.
And I had a — my oldest
daughter was six at the time.
And I was looking forward to,
“Okay, what’s her life
gonna be like?”
You know, in this kind of
male-dominated society.
And, you know, it’s so easy for
women to sort of lack confidence
and not find their power.
And this is about a girl
that finds her power.
-Oh, she is —
[ Cheers and applause ]
And she is powerful.
-She is powerful, absolutely.
-She is powerful in this movie.
Christoph Waltz
is also in the movie.
-Yep, yep.
-Jennifer Connelly, who I love.
-And we were learning
German from him.
-Yeah, he tried to
teach me some German.
-Yeah.
-I didn’t understand
what was real.
‘Cause there’s these cyborg type
of robots.
-Yeah, yeah. But they’re all
played by people.
That’s the thing.
I mean, it’s all about
the actors’ performance.
-Who was the girl
who played the lead?
-Rosa Salazar.
-Rosa Salazar.
-Amazing. Amazing.
-Dude, ’cause I was watching it
and the thing’s moving.
And it’s like that, and I go —
I go, “That’s not a computer
’cause it moves too much fluid
like a human.”
-That was Rosa.
-Really?
-Yeah, I mean, we had
some stunt girls too.
And they did some amazing work,
but Rosa trained.
She learned the martial arts.
And she’s this fantastic
actress.
Yeah, she’s —
[ Cheers and applause ]
She’s a warrior.
-Visually, I mean,
action-packed.
I don’t even know how
he directed this movie
’cause I don’t know what’s real,
if it’s just green screen
or what.
But it’s — I’ve never seen
more action in a film,
especially in the 3-D thing.
I was like, wow.
-But what’s real is
the heart and soul
of the performers
and especially her.
She comes through,
just booming through.
-It was so well done.
And I just — we always love
having you on.
I want to show a clip.
-Yeah, sure.
-You made a special clip for us.
-Yeah.
-Tell us what
we’re gonna see tonight.
-All right, this is —
so, this is Rosa Salazar,
who plays the title character
Alita, learning martial arts.
And then you see a little bit of
how that translates into
her final character.
You see that it’s her.
-Wait till you see this, guys.
Take a look.

The man is a genius for real! He helps design along with his brother mike underwater bots that can go inside titanic where no scientist or engineer has gone before. He helps design the 3-d cameras for avatar and also a one man underwater sub that can reach the deepest part of the ocean in the challenger deep 7 miles down with 10.000 lbs of pressure per square inch! Then he volunteers to go down by himself becoming the 3rd person in history to do so. Plus he directs two of the highest grossing films of all time titanic and avatar.

Since I could talk Cameron has produced mostly trash and directed only Avatar. I’m convinced its a great hollywood conspiracy, avatar 2 has been just around the corner for ten years. It’s not coming haha, he’s busy with submarines and shit

The guy was a truck driver with no education in movies it was just a hobby of him. He made the choice one day to follow his passion for movies and special effects to become a director. The rest is history i think this man is a legend.
