How Quitting Video Games Changed My Life For the Better

How Quitting Video Games Changed My Life For the Better

hey guys it’s Tim back again and in
today’s video I’m gonna be basically talking about why I quit video games and
how quitting video games really changed my life and really you know made me
achieve the life in my dreams that I really wanted to be living and so first
of all let me just talk about you know what games I were addicted I was really
addicted to when I was playing video games it was ever since age of about 17
I got hooked to RuneScape and I would play this game insanely a lot every day you
know exceeding if I was in at school I would basically on weekends I would be
playing it like 14 hours 16 hours just like as soon as I wake up and then I’ll
go to bed really late because I’ll be so hooked to it and you know on
school days I would basically play a little bit before school and I’ll come
back and I would just play it like there’s no tomorrow you know going to
sleep at 2:00 a.m. 3:00 a.m. and just really just repeating that and I
repeated that for a couple years and I just really was hooked to this game I
think one of the fundamental reasons why people get hooked to video games
especially if you’re shy or if you know if you’re lacking lots if you’re
lacking self-esteem is that it allows you to really live your dream life you
know because you’re controlling this character and you know you can really be
yourself you know how people are running around these them MMORPG games like just
shouting and just being like crazy dancing around or going up to girl
saying hi sort of deal this is actually how our dream core self really wants to
be you know and we’re like hiding behind this screen just like basically because
there’s a there is no anxiety involved we’re just really being ourselves
anyways I believe I was my true self in these games you know I would go up to girls
and if they were actually girls sometimes it’s guys playing girls
characters but I’ll go up to him and I’ll start striking striking
conversation and you know in in runescape you can buy and sell products
I was doing like little businesses and I was really scared about risking money
and I just really enjoyed it it was just an element it was just almost like I was
living my second life and I remember I managed to get this gold gilded armor
and I forgot all the names now but you know people are really just especially
the new sea world we call on them free to play world and they’ll they’ve never
seen this armor before so they will all follow me around and you know you feel
significant and it’s something that you’ve you don’t really experience in
every date day to day life you know when you’re shy or sufferings from
social anxiety like I was so it was just really escapism for me and after
runescape I managed to get over that game eventually you know I eventually
ended up quitting but then I found another game which was Call of Duty 4 I
believe and that game I was hooked just as much as runescape you know I was
playing it but this time it was like you now got a headset on so you’re really
communicating with other people and you’re doing all these like team
strategy stuff and you know I created a clan on there and you get that sense of
union and belonging sort of deal and I trash that game just as much as
runescape and you know I remember my parents actually had to disconnect the
Wi-Fi on one of the days because they were simply fed up of me reliving on
this game one day I decided to quit because I really decide to just question
my life and I began to think about is what I’m doing today really going to
make me you know is it gonna be significant in 20 40 years you know is
this daily habitual behavior gonna get me to where I really want to be um
and they answer is simple it wasn’t if I carried on gaming unless I was
monetizing it unless I was creating YouTube videos forever unless it was my
career there was no way I was gonna make money from it or there was no way
that it’s gonna make me achieve what I view success you know health wealth and
love and you know playing games every day was really ruining my social
interaction with other people because you know speaking through a headset and
not really meeting people face to face you know it just ruins your social and
communication in your social dynamics especially if you’re shy and especially
if you low you know if you have low self-esteem or you suffer from social
anxiety just like I did and so I decided one day that was it I was gonna quit and
just go live my life because the truth is guys I you know in games how
we’re leveling up our character or making our characters better the
question you gotta ask yourself is why aren’t you making yourself better in
real life right real life is essentially a game right it
is a game if you think about it we’re all destined to the graveyard right
there’s only certain amount of years we can actually live you know because we’re
in this physical world by definition we have to enter the non-physical world
right we’re all gonna die one day so in a way you can treat it like a game
right the game you can decide what your goal is what is success for you do you
wanna have a model girlfriend do you wanna become a millionaire do you want
to have a six-pack rip body and join and become a bodybuilder what the truth is
guys like this is essentially a game and it’s like you spend hours just you know
just on the screen just leveling up your character and you know making everything
better like the technology around you you you’re upgrading your PC you’re buying
a new Xbox but ask yourself when was the last time you upgraded yourself right
you’re running the same OS running back when you was like 15 right you’ve
not upgraded yourself you gotta ask yourself why I’m tired moving forward and
as soon as I began asking myself that that was it I was like I’m gonna do
whatever it takes to become the best version of myself and this is why I
created this YouTube channel you know this YouTube channel was a turning point
for me because I learnt so much in the last 5 years learning about self
development learning about reinvention and I got to the point where people were
asking me how to do it so I became a coach as a part-time thing and I’m still
coaching to this day but I got to the point where I was like you know I look
back and I’m like it was crazy what I was doing it really was and yeah you
just basically gotta ask yourself right and if I really look back now it just
it seems crazy right it seems crazy that everyday I was wasting you know don’t
amount of hours I remember looking on my cod4 account and it said I had over 100
days gaming time played and I just you just think to yourself that’s hundred
days of your life right can you think about it if you’re gonna die at the age
of 80 you know that’s not guaranteed by the way because you know we could die
today for all you know we there’s no guarantee in life but say you’re dying
at the age of 80 like just imagine if you’re at the age of 78 how important
the days are and you’ll just be looking back like I’ve wasted those days but let
me just let you know let let me just let you in on this right the truth is right
when we’re stuck in this situation so if you’re addicted to games right now
your emotional mind is gonna disagree with me because it can’t have that
perspective it is until you move away from that perspective you realize how
stupid it is so for example if you were to basically be a smoker and you don’t
really think smoking is disgusting but it isn’t until you’ve really quit
smoking you really want to stay away from smokers you’re like oh my god I
can’t handle the smell it’s just different perspective it’s the same with
gaming guys if your gamer at the moment you’re gonna rage at me right now and
you’re gonna you know throw all your troll negativity but you gotta
realize guys one day you are gonna get out that pit and hopefully you get
out of that pit sooner or later and you’ll look back at this and you’ll look
back at yourself and you realize you know I was kind of stupid guys just if
you take away one thing from this stop leveling up your character in games and
start leveling up yourself right in runescape you would reach 99 and get a
golden gilded cape or a special skill cape why don’t you get a special skill
cape and master something in real life and actually begin to live this life
you’ve been blessed with if you think think about it from a
biological point of view right 400 million sperm cells it took right and
only one went through and it’s you you show up right there’s a reason why
you’re here but if you’re wasting all that time spending on video games are
you really gonna become successful or are you really gonna make the most of
your life the answer is no so get real with yourself and I start upgrading
yourself upgrading and leveling up yourself and start really living this
life it doesn’t matter where you are right now as long as you start as long
as you make the first step right as the saying goes a journey of a thousand
miles begins with a single step is up to you to begin now if you’re playing games
that is all for me guys I just wanna say stopping video games have literally
changed my life and I hope this video one of the key messages have really
resonated with you guys if you found this video helpful please give a thumbs
up if you know any avid gamers that you wanna share this message to please
share the video who knows it might change their life and you would have
contributed towards that and guys if you’ve got any questions please leave me
a comment in the comment box below and guys the power of having friends on
gaming is what really become you know make you become hooked so what I’ve done
is created a group right where you can become friends with success driven
people as well as successful people and if you wanna join that Facebook group
you basically have to go in the description box below and click the link
and I will approve your requests okay guys have a very successful day and I’ll see

    Who are you, really?

LOL u can tell everyones a gamer in the comments. Look at how defensive theyre getting 😂 mention taking games away from them and they immediately start getting angry and in full denial. Keep wasting your life infront of a screen instead of improving youself . You will see later in life how far behind you are

hello … I dropped parachutes in your video, I wanted to ask you something. Do not you miss it?
Play a game, enter a community where everyone is working to win that world boss, win that dungeon, members together fighting for the guild, fighting for her growth?

I have the same desire to leave because I know how much video games influence and destroy my life and I want to quit because I can not control it …

but tell me, do not you miss it in your life? if I had control maybe I could be successful and not lose this part of life, games …. what do you think of this?

(I used google translator, I know and I understand perfectly English, but I do not know how to type :P)

Video games are fine in moderation but I know what he means. This video also applies to Netflix and show-watching addiction; and yes, even youtube; people pour so many hours into watching other successful people and live vicariously through them.

Real life goals: work out 24/7 get a model girlfriend and be rich, then marry and reproduce, most of people never get rich, most of them never have a happy marriage and end up living miserable life's. Money making machines, keeping themselves busy with "important real life activities". Social life, i tried that people just bore me with their "real life adventures". Most of people will treat you like you are waste of space anyway, life is brutal and unfair and there is nothing beautiful to search in it, Now excuse i got many dungeons to explore 😀

You don't quit games, just like you don't quit playing cards, monopoly, soccer or basketball…. it's not a drug, it's just a game… you just gotta find other hobbies man. Learn an instrument, learn programming, try a martial art, cook, sing, travel. It's just a hobby…

Lol I remember the RuneScape days I connect with you on this video mate I played RuneScape full-on non-stop for 5 years throughout school and my early work life.

Was it a fun time? Sure, it was but now I look back and see it a waste of time.

Save your eye health. Mental health. A lot of these gaming companies now are just sucking you dry. Literally. There’s more hobbies out there if it’s become dead to you go find something that brings you alive. For me it’ll be MTB 🚴🏻🗻 I already have my bike, I live in a beautiful place that I haven’t explored in the last 7 years and it’s that that’s gonna give me my freedom. Freedom is there you just have to take it. You have to exercise your right to be free or you’ll never be free.

Love the video man. Love the excerpt of treating yourself as the challenge not the immaterial self you’ll lose when the next game comes out. You are the true investment not the artificial robot that doesn’t even exist in the real world.

I play games but I am successful.
It's a matter of balance and time management.
Same thing goes who work more than 12 to 16 hours a day, or spending hundreds of hours either entertainment or making money.

Everyone can be better as long as they have visions in life and set boundaries to balance whatever we do.

Im good looking guy and i fked my one year with gaming. I used to play games when i was 10-14 yo and i found that i get addicted to it. Then i quitted it when i was 14. And after a while i started playing games when i was 20 yo and now iam 21. I regret that one year of gaming. I regret that 4 years of gaming in my childhood. Because it was making me antisocial. It is still making me. But this time the reason i started gaming was because of gf stuff that could be better but i failed. It gave me depression and instarted gaming. And with gaming it got even worse. Now i am saying that i will never play games again

Once you know you are addicted you better stop cold turkey. I did this and it's so much easier not even having the option to play games. It's boring at first because you don't really know how to fill up your extra free time. Then the bright ideas start popping up in your head and you can finally start the road to succes you always secretly wanted to do. And you might even enjoy it 🙂

Jesus…I almost teared up when you said 'Out of 400 million sperm cells, you were the one that showed up…and you're wasting it playing video games'. It resonated with me HARD and I kind of shifted into this tunnel vision watching your video like…am I really going against those odds of all those potential people, that could have done amazing things, and I'm sitting here leveling up a character on a GAME? Unreal.

This video also resonated with me very well because Runescape is the game that I happen to be addicted to as well. Thank you so much for creating this video brother, you've just gotten yourself a new subscriber. Keep releasing awesome content. <3

I'm quitting today. My mind tells me I love games but I always find myself getting too competitive and frustrated when I start struggling to win. Why put myself through that for a win that won't even matter the second after I get it. And when I do win it STILL doesn't matter because I don't get any reward in real life except for it momentarily feeling good. It's just wasted time, anger, and false happiness

I do both video gaming and socialising in my life. Been ibiza & Ayia Napa 3 times each, Florida twice, tenerife twice, going Jamaica next month, have my own 2 bed house, own a lexus, been going gym 4-6 times a week since I was 17 (26yrs).

But that doesn't stop me from doing my own thing like playing mortal kombat (3000hrs) tekken 7 (700hrs). Uploading YouTube videos.

Enjoy life the way you want to. Just remember you have priorities.

When people say "it's okay in moderation", i get them and that's what i've done for my whole life (i'm 19), got good grades, friends and stuff, but video games are created in a way that if you are a normal person, your brain will love playing more than anything else you could find in the real world, it's so intense, so much dopamine flowing through your synapses, and then when you do something else that is not designed to please you, you think that it sucks because you can have ten times more fun with video games; it's a bit like not feeling anything with a glass of wine because you usually drink the whole bottle. If you stop totally, your brain will readapt and you will learn to enjoy new stuff that you might have found boring before (i found myself having fun with maths and computer science way more than usual after quitting video games) and of course; all that free time is sheer bliss.

I really enjoy gaming, and I have always prioritised my family and job, but I’ve been questioning it just lately. I’ve taken on a part time degree and I desperately want to learn guitar, and there’s just not enough time in the day. But man I do love some escapism on the PS4.

I'm 22 and as someone who would play PS3 thoughout the day and own 50 games for it, I'm at a place where it's not uplifting for my mood and life in general, unless it's 90s games like 1996's Tomb Raider or something. Overall, especially with how games have been designed now not to teach you but to keep you in a loop (Fortnite for example), I'll only now play games digitally most of the time that are actually challenging and don't require a lot of investment like MMOs or RPGs. In the end it all boils down to what will make you successful for yourself. It's not for your girlfriend, not for your family, not for your friends, but because you're motivated and essentially greedy to pursue your passion. Admittedly, gaming is not a passion, unless you drool for the opportunity to become a game developer making upwards of $50K a year. Otherwise keep it as a bare-minimum sort of hobby but not as a time-controller because for sure if you let it it can easily control your time and resources.

I just turned 37 and i've finally come to accept how games have ruined my life. I've spent thousands of hours playing games and I just used it to hide the fact that I didn't want to face reality. Well not anymore, today is the day I took a stand, sold my PS4, going to sell my PS3 and PS1, i've cancelled my ff14 subscription, deleted the character, I deleted all my pc games and uninstalled steam. I'm selling everything I don't need in my life now and all the money I get i'm investing it into guitar lessons. I have a beautiful guitar, I paid £370 for it and barely played it in over 2 years , I choose to switch my addiction to games and make learning the guitar my passion , I feel truly sick when I look at how many hours of my life I have wasted looking at a screen.

Hey man! I'd like to share with you that I had a 35 days streak without playing any video games and today I relapsed. Although I know i messed up, I won't beat myself up for it. It's all part of the long term growing, self improving and self mastering of our own selves. I relapsed because I got on my computer and my epic games launcher automatically opened, it offered me a $20 game for free. I couldn't resist the urge to download it and try it out, and so I did. I fell for temptations and played the game for 4 hours straight. I just now deleted it and won't go back to video games even though I love them, simply because in those 35 days I spent WITHOUT playing any video games at all I ACCOMPLISHED so many things I would've never been able to accomplish if I kept on playing video games.
To all my gaming brothers out there who want to get rid of this mental illness called "Social Anxiety" I challenge you all to do a "30 Days Without Playing any Video Games" Challenge. The main goal for this challenge is to improve your life, socialize more, work toward achieving your goals, become confident with who you are and be as productive as you can.
Good luck everyone who's trying to quit video games!

Haha I was shocked when you said: "runescape".. I have been playing for legitimately 11 years. And this game is so good, and was. Tbh, after watching your video, it made me realise some things, that I wasn't actually enjoying the game anymore, because there nowadays there is more toxicity. And there is just Something off about runescape. I think when I played recently I was hoping to get the good old day vibes, but it just didn't work out.
Anyways, thank you for making this video and ssharing your feelings about it, because it helped me to give my account away. Tbh the life I have now isn't as happy yet because it's difficult quitting this addiction. But I hope you're right about achieving your dreams, and after all no matter what, living real life is still Worth it, right?

It's like anything, just do it in moderation. I find time to workout, play games when I get off work but never put my kids to the side. It's hard when you grow up. But good video with good points, but I can't let gaming go completely. I tell my wife that at least you know I'm home gaming and not at the bar acting a fool. And to top it off, I'm a 12 hr night and day shift worker. Now that's tough.

A really great video, fantastic. I love gaming, for me it's a great pastime. I do not play multiplayer games, only singleplayer. I still love reading, working out, socialising with friends and doing other great things. Everything in moderation. I could not go on and play for 15hrs a day, that is crazy. Many great singleplayer games have interesting stories to tell hence the reason I play them. the most important thing is to never over indulge in things you love, just have a set time when you can recharge and refresh yourself every now and then. =)

Way before I was younger I literally could play video games 24 hours . Now I was able to lessen it . However I Couldn't not completely get rid of it specially having friends who also Play it. Im able to go to the gym and do other things but still I catch myself gaming everyday. I dont know if you've experienced it but you just get that Feeling of urge to play it when youre trying to avoid it. Any tips? I'm not totally out of control but I still want to completely get rid of it and not waste the time. As you said I'm not gaining any money out of it and theres nothing to gain from it in 20-40 years unless youre doing content.

I am taking a break from video games to find more interesting things in life like achieving my goals in prosperity. I want to be known as a person who isn’t known as a nobody but as a man of importance. People talk about living in big houses and having really awesome sports cars… you won’t find it sitting on your butt all day in front of a tv living a fake rich life in a video game.

2016 was the year that changed my life badly, it quickly went from a life without a gaming addiction to one that had a gaming addiction. I found a game that really got me hooked and three years later I regret the time I wasted playing this game everyday after school for probably maybe 6hrs on a weekend and 4 fours on a weekday i’ll be playing. I recently quit for good because I started a self improvement journey and I’m doing NoFap alongside not playing games. I’m exercising more and doing more outdoor activities like basketball.

You cannot quit video games, cause they are better than life, life is frustrating and unless you become a spiritual person who don't touch pmoney like the buddist life is worse than video games, i rather have fun with cool people online than compete for money in a devilish society, just saying, people living the true life are 0.01 % familly money work is a illusion of the matrix.

The new evil of gaming is that companies are tapping into the addictive nature of humans with micro transactions. That is predatory behaviour. They are exploiting the weakness in humans to make themselves extremely wealthy.

What video games have done for me: failing education, severe anxiety, obese, no relationships, no motivation…
Why I play them: I believe the only way to improve is to breathe the game, any break makes me bad
Why I want to be good: error 404

I've been interested with computers since I was a about 7. I played math games on 5 inch floppy disks. I'm 31 now and I've basically quit games, but, there's a residual substance left over from 15 years of hardcore gaming. I have to sit down and listen; do nothing for sometimes hours before I get a "right" idea to commit to. Otherwise I'm just feeding my own negativity. I am farming at a specific level in life rather than realizing I have (Like in RS) Skills to be powering up. I have no vision. I'm trying to change that but I have 0 REAL confidence and skills in life. This video hits home for me. I feel like I'm the only one who can help me the right way. I just came on to confirm that this is true real life stuff. If I can do it though, be confident and have vision for my purpose in life, you can too. Peace.

Is listening to music a waste of time? Is art a waste of time? No, and video games are art that brings people joy, they're not a waste of time just because you aren't building muscles at a gym, not everyone wants to do that.
